Become a Member

Members are at the heart of The Resource Exchange, committing to 2 years of engagement and participation in exchanges, workshops, and summits; sharing practical insights; co-designing; and leading activities aligned with TRE priorities. Membership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening inclusive local governance through collaboration, learning, and action, with both fee-based and subsidized options available.

Become a Partner

Partners support and strengthen The Resource Exchange by expanding learning, connection and support for communities leading local governance. They play a critical role in sustaining and advancing the network through financial or in-kind support, contributing expertise, collaborating on activities or regions, and supporting member-led initiatives, helping connect resources to real needs on the ground.

Join us as a TRE Friend

TRE Friends stay connected and engaged in a flexible, lighter way, offering an option for those interested in the work without a formal membership commitment. They receive updates and newsletters, join selected events, access resources and insights, and remain connected to the network, playing an important role in the broader ecosystem supporting inclusive local governance.

The Resource Exchange community is made up of a large but niche group of people across the value chain.

Though they may have different objectives and experiences, they all share a commitment to inclusive, locally led resource governance. Members are practitioners that are actively working to strengthen local governance.

Current members are based in Australia, Canada,  Chile, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guyana, Kenya, Sierra Leone,  South Africa, Tanzania,  United Kingdom, United States (incl. Alaska), Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Members are driving meaningful change in their regions, strengthening local land governance and improving natural resource decision making.

The Resource Exchange has been developed as part of the Community Smart Consultation and Consent Initiative which incentivizes and supports inclusive and effective natural resource governance. The Initiative is implemented by Conservation International, Landesa, RESOLVE, and the University of Queensland’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining supported with initial funding from the BHP Foundation.
